Christmas!

Hi everyone, hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

Sorry for not posting much lately, but it's been so hectic around here at the moment. Lots of friends and relatives to see. Last week, all my school/college friends decended into Newcastle simulataneously and I was rendered helpless! ;) But I've missed them all so much!

Expect a post sometime this week about my Christmas haul, and also about my inspirations of 2009!
In the meantime, don't ch'a love the presents my friend Sam gave me? The theme was apparently 'Things That Look Like Carla!' Teehee. But more about my presents in the Christmas haul post very soon!

Muchos love,
MessyCarla

PS: Oh, and don't you just LOVE the retro 1950s diner we're in? If you're around the Newcastle area ever, try Stateside Diner - it's been my favourite place to eat since it opened when I was in college. I recommend the burgers and alcoholic milkshakes (especially the 'Buddy Holly' - Baileys and Vanilla Ice Cream! Mmmm!)

Waking Up In Vegas

Hey everyone,

"So, shut up and put your money where you mouth is, That's what you get for waking up in Vegas" sang Katy Perry.
I'm ill AGAIN at the moment, so am in dire need of some good old fashioned escapism.
DRESS: Vivien Of Holloway, £59
SHOES: Ebay, from £19.99
EYELINER: Urban Decay, £12 each.
CLUTCH: Accessorize, £25. (I got my Mam this for her birthday, and it's GORGEOUS!)
NECKLACE: Hannah Zakari, £20.
BELT: Topshop, £22.
FASCINATOR: Ebay, from £4.99.

Think big dresses, big petticoats, big makeup, big shoes, big accessories! It's Christmas anyway, so use that as an excuse to overdose on glitter and sequins.

Manchester was so much fun last week, and although it's like a mini-London with all the ace shops. (my friend Sam had her first Urban Outfitters experience and got two tops on sale for under £30! Jealous!)

I really should have bought these glasses though. Especially as a tribute to the late, great Maggie Jones. They were from American Apparel:

Also much needed in this entry are shoutouts to my lovely supervisior (is this even the right term - 'boss' doesn't sound right?) Emma who waggled her animal print scarf at me this week, inspired by this entry when I was working with them in the office this week.

"She went straight to Primark after she saw the entry and bought it," said Anna, office fashionista (who really puts me to shame).
And also thanks to my lovely friend Michael who came over and complimented the new layout during my shift. Heart-shapes, dude - you guys be sure to check out his awesome food blog!

Right. I'm off for more copious watching of The Office (ooh, John Krasinski! Yum! Yum!) under my blanket. What a wuss.

MessyCarla

Blue & White.

Hi lovers. Sorry for the mini hiatus, I've been bogged down with a million and one things going on. Lots of shopping has been happening, however - so expect some outfit posts very soon! I'm mostly at home now, so I'm having to find another position for my camera/posing-ness etc. We'll see!

My staples at the minute are navy blue and white. Think summer nauticals, but with a glam, wintery twist with the addition of sparkly jewerelly and some heels:

DRESS: Dorothy Perkins, £25.
CARDIGAN: New Look, £15.
NECKLACE: Dorothy Perkins, £7.
EARRINGS: New Look, £4.
BELT: Topshop, £22.
SHOES: New Look, £20.

Yes, I'm on a bit of a kick with Dorothy Perkins this season - their stuff is just so flattering with big shoulders and nipped waists. That dress looks simple, but is definately one of the most flattering dressed I've ever owned. I got the same design in a rose pattern, too - something I never usually do! I've also been wearing this dress a lot, which is so slinky and gives the impression of a tiny waist. Boss!

Anyhoo, I'll try and do some outfit posts this week.

MessyCarla

Speaking of Panda/Polar Bear hat, my friend Neale gave me a heads up that a certain girl-kissing singer has been spotted in the very same one!!

Yes! It's Katy Perry! She was recently spied wearing a necklace from Heidi Seeker too, which is a bit mint (especially cause they're based in Gateshead...bet you never knew Heidi Seeker was a Geordie, right?) And you heard about Panda/Polar Bear hat here first, remember?

Going Christmas shopping tonight with my mam and sister to cheer myself up. (the mix CD I came home to from Ambar is helping loads too - thanks, girl!)

Ignore the slighly crazy hair. That's what happens when I don't toweldry it properly before blowdrying. And it's already growing rather long already - it's only been a few weeks since it got chopped. And I was whinging about it then - you really can't please me!

Halloween tomorrow, wooo!
BIG shout out to my friends Sam and Neale whose radio show is starting again tomorrow on Spark FM. Check out the event here and listen live here from 2pm til 4pm.
I'm also in talks to share this blog with Spark FM which sounds awesome. I'll keep you posted.

Recreational Tiara Use.

I bought a tiara today from Claire's Accessories. It is both for Halloween use and recreational use.
Because of the short days (the sun sets at 4.30pm!) my SAD has been messing my moods around. So I've taken a leaf out of Shilpa Shetty's book (she wears fairy wings when she's depressed) and going for alternative methods of antidepressants.
I really do have my own way of dealing with problems. :)

Sam: Pretty In Pink.

After a night of Nandos and X Factor, me and my friend Sam had a little shopping trip originally to find her a dress for her Halloween costume.

So we headed for the Topshop sale, and although I was supposed to be strictly looking for blue dresses, I picked out this lovely dress for her to try on in her size.

"I don't wear pink!" Said the horrified goth one.
"You'll suit pink," The expert insisted.
And look, she does!

Sorry about the phone picture. And the socks! ;)
"I think you're the first person to see me in pink," She said. And now of course, you all are too. I convinced her to buy it, thinking it'll be about £20 in the sale. And when we got to the till - A FIVER!! I'm a genius, I tell you!

So just a little outfit post today, accessorising the new dress for Sam v2.0:

DRESS: (Sam's was £5 from Topshop. I wanted a proper picture though of something of a similar colour and cut, so this one is from...) Principles £99.
NECKLACE: Dorothy Perkins, £15.
BELT: French Connection, £35.
TIGHTS: Dorothy Perkins, £5 or two pairs for £8.
SHOES: New Look, £16.

Oh, and we managed to find her a blue dress for Halloween. A successful shopping trip makes for an ace Sunday.

I'm On A Shoe!

ZOMG this adoreable shoe has just made my Christmas list - doesn't the character remind you of somebody...? Black hair, big fringe, confused expression, lots of accessories? Hmmm.

The designer, Karla (amazing name, girl!) has an online shop which can be found here: http://www.zazzle.com/lalloronax3. And best of all, if you aren't too keen on the colour scheme you can change them yourself - how fab!

Sorry for the quick entry, I'm starving (Miso ramen tonight...I'm on a budget!) and I have lots of Buffy to catch up on.

Halloween 2009.

T-shirt: Topman.
Necklace: Dorothy Perkins.
Earrings: Accessorize.
Gloves: River Island.
Sweeties: River Island.

Halloween is almost upon us! One of my favourite holidays!
The telegraph posted this article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/6364768/Fancy-dress-sales-jump-as-Halloween-overtakes-Guy-Fawkes-Night.html) yesterday about how Brits are celebrating Halloween more than Bonfire Night, because of influences such as American TV. I dunno, I LOVE Guy Fawkes Night too - there's nothing like the burn-y (?) smell of fireworks and Bonfires (must be the fumes from the burning wheelie bins from the dodgy estate round the corner from mine making me a bit giddy...good old Hebburn!), hats, scarves, mittens and holding cups of soup. Yumyum.

But Halloween is just another chance for me to dress like an idiot and eat lots of sweets.
I do that anyway, but at least I have a vaguely valid excuse.

I'm so jealous of all the cute kids outfits the shops have in now, usually for under a tenner a time - there was NOTHING like that when I was young unless you spent a bomb, which of course we never did.

My Halloween costume was generally a bin liner, with a witch's hat and fingers my mam got for cheap in Woolworths. And because of the afformentioned dodgy estates, we never really went trick or treating except the one year a group of kids I knew from the liturgy group at church (a bit like Sunday School) invited me round with them (with the watchful eye of our mothers) and I've never known such a violent bunch, practically looting houses for sweets. Catholics, I tell thee.

Halloween is also an excuse for me to pimp one of my FAVOURITE bands, Zombina And The Skeletones.
I know this is a fashion blog, so I won't have much about music, but Zombina are a little kitschy exception. They perform under B-Movie pseudonyms and sing songs such as 'Evil Science', 'At The Megaplex' and 'Nobody Likes You (When You're Dead).' Also, I met Zombina and Doc Horror at their (free!) Newcastle gig and they were utterly, utterly adorable.

Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/zombinaandtheskeletones.

HairCHOP.

Ignore my easy smile. I really don't like my new haircut. I think it's a little too short?

8 October 2009

Accessorize.

Once again, Accessorize peaks during the Autumn/Winter months.
Epecially with their appliequed stuff - oh, the applique!

I would update this more often, but I've actually been shopping less than I ever have, despite now having my loan and bursary from uni. But funds have been put towards my shared house, and visiting my schoolfriend Marie in Poitiers next month.

I always said that I'd rather spend money on dresses than food. But it's too easy to look at the tins of soup in your cupboard, think "bugger this" and go to Starbucks around the corner for a lovely frappuchino.

I'm also trying really hard to cut down this week in case anybody's interested - I've enforsed a ban on crisps til next Saturday.

Back on topic though, I couldn't resist buying this hat from River Island:

The jury's out as to whether it's a panda with white ears, a polar bear with with mascara circles or a ghost with pompom ears. I've already seen another girl in uni wearing it. Grrr.

MessyCarla.

Autumn.

Let's kick this off with Autumn fashion. Autumn is the season for my Seasonal Affective Disorder to kick in...bring on the mood swings and panic attacks! All I've been doing lately in either work or uni, so the internet has been my saviour, rather sadly. My picks for this Autumn are:

I stopped wearing t-shirts the past few years because I practically lived in jeans and t-shirts during my college years, but methinks I need to stock up on the above.

The panda, umbrella, I Shoot People and BOOOO monster are Topman.
The Flamingo and Zebra are in the Dorothy Perkins sale.
The Barbie one is New Look. (and sold out online in my size...sort it out, N.L.?)

Seriously though, how good is New Look at the minute?! Can't wait for this stuff to arrive in the shops...the one at the Metro Cente didn't have most of the above. BOO!
